Leadership in Running Fitness

 

Is this you?

Perhaps you already take a running group for a club and want to help them improve, or you'd love to get more of your friends running? Maybe a few of you at work run at lunchtime but no-one really knows what to do. The Leadership in Running Fitness course is designed for people just like you!
Once qualified, you'll be able to deliver fun and safe sessions to groups of runners with different abilities including new runners and those who already run but want to progress.

The Leadership in Running Fitness course

Addresses barriers to participation in running finding ways of appealing to those not traditionally attracted to running clubs.
Before signing up to the course you will need to apply for a CRB check with UK Athletics. Please follow the CRB Process. Once you've completed the course and received CRB clearance from UK Athletics you will be able to run groups on our behalf.

Lead a Run in England group

Leadership in Running Fitness will qualify you to set up your own Run in England group, and make a contribution to the health and fitness of your workplace, school, college, university or local community.  Go to our Resources page to see a couple of videos that might help you.

Reach into the community

Run in England is a nationwide programme to get more people of all abilities out running.  For your club this could be your chance to reach out into the community.  For you as a leader its a chance to take your passion further and even earn some money in the process. So if you would like to train to be a leader follow the steps below.

What do I learn on a Leadership in Running Fitness course?

  • Looking at barriers to running and how to overcome those barriers
  • How to develop a session & session components including risk assessment, safety, goals and reviewing practice
  • Managing your group to include all abilities
  • Session planning, different activities to include, importance of variety
  • Goal setting – How to set and use personal goals
  • Warming up and cooling down
  • Correct stretching for running
  • Common injuries and injury prevention
  • Footwear – the basics
  • Being a leader – whats expected of you

 

CRB Checks

It’s IMPORTANT to apply for a CRB check when you book your course to prevent delays starting your group, as they can take 2 to 3 months to process. All Group Leaders need to provide a current UK Athletics Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) clearance prior to starting a group. Please don't plan to start your group until you have received the disclosure. You can find details of applying for your CRB check here!
