02.Mar.10 Run in England launches training groups for the Great West Run
Run in England is offering a wonderful opportunity to train for the Great West Run half marathon and 5k. The events take place in Exeter on Sunday May 2nd. Local 'Run in England' groups, all with a trained leader, are now targetting entrants for the two events to make sure they're in the best possible shape when they line up on the start line.
Working in partnership with the events team at the Ironbridge Runner, this initiative offer help, support and advice, particularly to runners who've not attempted these distances before.
You can join ‘Run in England’ groups training for the Half Marathon on a Wednesday at 5.30pm at the Pyramids Leisure Centre in Exeter, or a Thursday evening at 7pm at Sweat and Stretch, Paris Street, Exeter.
Training for the 5k event is on a Saturday at 11.30am, meeting at Clifton Hill Sports Centre. If you live in Newton Abbott, meet on Thursday evening's at 6pm at the Hungry Horse.
If you work for Devon County Council contact Sarah Evans at sarah.evans@devon.gov.uk to find out about her groups which meet on a Monday and Thursday after work.
Run in England are also looking for potential run leaders in the area who would be prepared to take a 1 day Leadership in Running Fitness course and set up a group within their community or workplace. Run in England leaders need to be enthusiastic, supportive of others and are runners with some experience (not speed). The next training course takes place at Ashmoor Recreation Centre, located at South Dartmoor Community College, Ashburton on Saturday 10th April.
